Editorial Review for Parish Foods & Goods – by Jonathan Baker
In Short
The elongated Nawlins' style dual-story spot certainly doesn't lack on the charm-o-meter. The crusty old 1890s Inman Park building is jaw-droppingly beautiful and features a bustling basement market chocked with to-go goods and gourmet nibbles. In the upstairs dining room menus are scrawled on chalkboards and hang from century-old brick walls; a simple list of creative sandwiches, seafood and pork built for two. The crawfish and chicken sausage cheesecake appetizer is a decadent wedge that's wonderfully weird, while the soft and flakey broiled redfish comes seasoned stiff. Oysterloaf BLTs and root beer floats with homemade ice cream add a nice French Quarter touch.

Insider Tips
What to DrinkThe tall Storm's Brewin' cocktail--a crisp ginger beer and dark rum transfusion, is spot-on for sipping.
Where to SitWhile the dining room is a total looker and the patio is easily crowded, pony up to the raw bar to do oysters up right.
The ExtrasHit the downstairs market for early morning coffee and pastries, po-boys for lunch or nab gourmet cheeses and artisianal wines.
Know Before You GoThe market opens every morning at 7am and delivers the goods until the above restaurant shuts down.
ParkingParking is a madhouse--use the valet for a stressless experience.
Fun FactIt pays to be a neighbor. The market delivers for free to those in Inman Park.

My husband and I - somewhat new to Atlanta and already in a Kevin Rathbun rut (why go anywhere else?)- decided to branch out and try Parish last weekend. We were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere of the place. It is a design masterpiece with all of the textures and fun touches - someone below mentioned the menu on the paper bag. We sat at the bar for the first hour there (no reservations, so we had to wait) and had several great drinks - the house version of a hurricane and a Scarlett O'Hara. Both were refreshing and bright. Nice mixed crowd with great energy. You might draw conclusions about the food based on the fact that here we are five sentences into the review and it is only getting its first mention. Nothing outstanding. In the future, we'll probably go back to our usual Kevin Rathbun Steak and then come to Parish for after dinner drinks at the bar.
Pros: Great drinks, fun crowd, high energy atmosphere
Cons: Very loud, tables close together, so so food

My wife and I went here with another couple two weeks ago. We are all in our early thirties and decided to try it out. It was the worst dining experience we've had in years. Our reservation was for 8:30pm, we were sat at 9:15pm. We did not receive any attention for over 10mins and did not receive our drinks until 9:45pm. The place was very crowded and loud, understandable for a new hot spot but I literally had to ask our server to repeat the specials three times, and I was sitting closest to her. I ordered a bottle of wine for the table. Our first round of wine glasses had 1/2 inch of water in them, our second round had lipstick on two of the glasses, so it took three tries. By the time our food arrived it was 10:30pm and it was not that great considering the prices and atmosphere. To compensate for our difficult time, the server was kind enough to provide desserts on the house - this was an insult and i typically do not eat desert at 11:30pm anyway. Do yourself a favor and choose another restaurant.
Pros: When it closes
Cons: It being open
